Sharyn Goldstien

Trustee | Co-Chair

PhD Marine Ecology and Genetics, MSc Environmental Law, BSc (Hons) Marine Biology and Biological Oceanography.

Dr Sharyn Goldstien is the Science & Expert Advisory Program Director of the Environmental Defenders Office (EDO), with past roles including Coastal Management Program Advisor, Senior Fisheries Manager and Senior Lecturer.

As a marine scientist and former Senior Lecturer (School of Biological Sciences) at the University of Canterbury, Sharyn specialised in marine ecology, community engagement and science communication. As an academic, most of her later work involved science in communities, working primarily in the Kingdom of Tonga and Kaikōura, New Zealand.

Sharyn is focused on environmental law, policy, community initiatives and science communication to support place-based conservation through science synthesis, knowledge brokerage and strategic planning - applying science and expert knowledge for effective environmental stewardship.
